Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism celebrates the very essence of our Christian Faith: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  It initiates one into the body of Christ, the parish faith community.  This sacrament of initiation incorporates us into the Church and we are reborn as daughters and sons of God.

Baptism of Infants and Younger Children:  Parents are encouraged to have their children baptized within a few months of birth.  A parent should call the office at 567-2315 to inquiry and to arrange an interview with the priest.  A copy of the child’s birth certificate should be brought to this meeting.  An instruction class for parents will be offered in the Church.  Baptisms will be scheduled by arrangement with the Priest and may take place within the Mass or outside of the Mass, or at other times by special arrangement.  Godparent selection is an important decision for your child.  Please note that you need at least one practicing Catholic to serve as a Godparent.  They need to have a letter of recommendation from their own pastor, if they are not members of St. Therese Parish.  Contact: Fr. Baptism of Adults and Children over 7 (OCIA):  Adult baptism may occur only after completion of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (O.C.I.A.).  It is a year round process of weekly sessions led by Nelson Perez for any person interested in learning more about the Catholic Church or in becoming a full and active member of the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.  Children seven and older, and young people who are unbaptized participate in a similar process.
